Dunkin Donuts

At a Dunkin Donuts, two kids sat at two neighboring tables, divided by a stroller with nobody in it. They waited for their fathers to come back from the counter, their fathers who knew each other from back when they joked about ever having children, which was not even that long ago. The fathers had already bought their half dozen boxes yet were still stuck to the farthest corner of the shop in a brotherly conversation, a conversation that was probably different, one that neither kid would understand or be given the permission to understand. It was offensive and the two kids kind of stopped believing that their fathers were ever true to them, until their fathers came right back in like ten seconds with smiles under their mustaches and the kids started believing again.
